Parents on the Web: Teaching Them Safety

In the age of digital technology many people’s parents are venturing onto the web for the first time. Just because your folks have a new Wild Blue deals satellite subscription doesn’t mean they know how to use it so here are a few tips from us on making sure they’ve got the right idea:
Teach them about scams: It’s likely your parents will want to use the web to check email and maybe social network, if they’re particularly adventurous. Talk to them about fishing and money scams and what to look out for – everything sounds like a great idea to them!
Teach them about viruses: Make sure your folks understand that computers can get sick just like people. Explain the most common viruses and how they’re transmitted and teach them what to open and what to delete right away.
Teach them about hardware: To keep their computer safe they’ll have to learn what to do and not to do. They shouldn’t jostle the battery cord and should know how often to totally reboot – keep their laptops running longer with a few safety tips.
